Agentic Commerce Readiness

An assessment and plan for how AI shopping assistants and buying agents can discover, read and act on your catalogue, policies and checkout, without activating any payment or integration.

Shoppers increasingly ask AI assistants what to buy and where; some assistants can now compare products and start a purchase on the shopper's behalf. Agentic commerce readiness assesses whether such systems can find your products, read accurate prices, stock and shipping rules, understand your returns and warranty policies, and reach a checkout that works for them. SEO Evaluate checks your public catalogue, feeds, structured data, policies and access rules, compares them with each other, and delivers a prioritised plan. The engagement assesses and plans; it does not switch on payments, autonomous checkout or any platform integration.

/01 · Definition

What is agentic commerce readiness?

Agentic commerce readiness is the state in which AI shopping assistants and buying agents can discover your products, read accurate prices, availability and policies, and move a shopper toward a purchase without being blocked or misled. A readiness assessment checks your catalogue, product feeds, structured data, policy pages, access rules and checkout flow for consistency and machine readability, then prioritises the fixes. It is an assessment and plan: it does not activate payments, autonomous checkout or platform integrations, which are separate, owner-approved decisions.

Agents make the same mistakes a hurried human would, at scale: they trust a feed price over a page price, quote a returns window from an old PDF, or give up on a checkout that needs a phone verification. The assessment finds those gaps before an agent does.

Most of the work is ordinary commerce hygiene done rigorously: one price, one stock state, one policy per product, stated in places machines can read.

/03 · Problems we solve

Problems the assessment surfaces

  • Feed and page disagree

The product feed says in stock at one price; the page says another. Agents pick one and the shopper blames you.

  • Policies only in PDFs or images

Returns and warranty terms an agent cannot parse are treated as unknown, and unknown terms lose the comparison.

  • Blocked or half-rendered pages

Bot protection or client-side rendering hides price and availability from the agents you want to serve.

  • Missing identifiers

Without GTINs, brand and MPN, agents cannot match your product to a shopper's request or to competitor listings.

  • Checkout an agent cannot finish

Mandatory account creation, CAPTCHA at checkout or unclear shipping costs stop a purchase that was otherwise won.

What is checked, and what is deliberately not

Checked: product and offer structured data against the rendered page; feed fields against the page and against each other; policy pages for machine-readable terms; robots and bot-protection rules for the search, shopping and user-triggered agents documented by major AI platforms; checkout steps for friction an agent cannot resolve.

Not checked and not inferred: your margins, your internal stock accuracy, your payment-provider configuration, or any private analytics setup. Those need your data and your decision; the assessment lists them as owner inputs rather than guessing.

/05 · Method and process

How the assessment runs

  1. 01

    Scope

Markets, catalogue segments, feeds and the agent surfaces that matter for your buyers are agreed.

  2. 02

    Collection

Public pages, feeds, structured data, policy pages and access rules are collected and dated.

  3. 03

    Consistency analysis

Prices, stock, identifiers, shipping and return terms are compared across feed, page and markup; conflicts are logged with evidence.

  4. 04

    Agent walk-through

The buying flow is walked as an agent would experience it, from discovery to the last step before payment.

  5. 05

    Roadmap and readout

Findings are prioritised by shopper impact and effort; integration options for relevant AI shopping surfaces are outlined as decisions, not commitments.

/06 · Measurement and KPIs

What the readout measures

Each measure is reported with its sample and date; the assessment sets a baseline and promises no sales outcome.

  • Consistency rate

Products with matching price and stock across feed, page and markup

Share of the sampled catalogue with no conflicts.

  • Policy clarity

    Policies with machine-readable, quotable terms

Shipping, returns, warranty and payment pages assessed individually.

  • Access

Key pages reachable and rendered for the agents in scope

Per agent user agent, from robots rules to rendered content.

  • Checkout friction

Checkout steps an agent can complete unaided

Listed per blocking step with the fix.

/07 · Strategic considerations

Boundaries and limitations

  • No activation

The engagement does not enable payments, autonomous checkout, marketplace connections or platform integrations. Each of those is a separate decision with its own approval.

  • Platform rules change quickly

Agent protocols and shopping-surface requirements are revised often. Findings are dated and reviewed against current platform documentation at delivery.

  • Discovery, not guaranteed sales

Being readable to agents makes you eligible for consideration; it does not guarantee that any assistant recommends or buys your product.

  • Internal data stays yours

Stock accuracy, margins and supplier terms are owner inputs; the assessment flags where they matter without estimating them.

/08 · Frequently asked questions

Agentic commerce readiness: frequently asked questions

Do you connect my store to ChatGPT or other AI shopping surfaces?

No. The assessment prepares you and outlines integration options with their requirements; any connection, payment setup or autonomous checkout is a separate project you approve explicitly.

Do I need a product feed to start?

A feed makes the consistency analysis much stronger, but the access, policy and structured-data checks work from public pages alone. Without a feed, the feed checks are reported as not applicable rather than failed.

Is this only for retailers?

No. Any business whose offers an assistant might compare, including clinics, hotels and agencies, benefits from clear, machine-readable offers and policies. Checks that only apply to physical goods are excluded from your scoring.

How is this different from e-commerce SEO?

E-commerce SEO targets search engines and rankings. Readiness targets assistants that read, compare and act; the two overlap on structured data and rendering but diverge on policies, identifiers and checkout friction.

Will this increase sales?

It removes reasons an assistant would skip or misdescribe you. Whether that converts into sales depends on your offer, price and the assistant's behaviour, none of which we control or guarantee.
